Yardley Primary School Newsletter July 2012

Sport over the year
In football our Boys were runners up in the Leyton Orient Tournament and our Girls team 2nd in their league. It was another good year for our cross country runners with the Girls Team winning the Orion Harriers Invitation Race and taking silver at the Waltham Forest Championships. The Boys Team took bronze in the boy’s championship race. At the Chingford ‘Family’ Cross Country Races our children won a gold and 2 bronze medals.
Our Year 5 Team won the Cricket Competition and our Year 6 Team were runners up. At the Swimming Gala the Girls Team won the overall event Girls Shield and the Boys Team got silver place in their competition. Between them the teams won eight individual medals.
Our ‘A’ Team won gold and the ‘B’ Team silver at the Basket Ball Competition. We also came 3rd in the Netball Competition and picked up silver in both the area Gymnastics Competition and Year 5/6 Quad Kids Final.
The Arts
Year 2 have been working with an artist to produce work for an Olympic display and the whole school worked on the ‘Face Britain’ project and have undertaken other projects related to the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics. There have also been visits to galleries.
Our Choir again took part in the O2 Schools Choir Event. All Year 4 pupils, as part of a ‘wider opportunities scheme’ have had a year learning to play the guitar. Our new Year 4 in September will also have this opportunity. All in all we have approximately 200 pupils learning a musical instrument.
Our children have taken part in the CFS Dance Showcase and there have been drama workshops in school. We have also had traditional Maypole and Morris dancing workshops. We also continue to run many clubs after school and at lunchtime.
Trips
There have been many trips again this year that pupils have enjoyed and gained from. However, I have been approached by several parents feeling annoyed because they believe they are subsidising other parents who can afford to pay, but simply do not. The vast majority of parents do actually contribute to trips but we are aware that cost has risen considerably in recent times. During this year parents have contributed approximately £9000 to trips whilst they have cost the school £17000. Because of parents concerns and the rising cost we will be reviewing how we organise trips for next year.
All-through School
We have appointed a firm of architects, ATP Group, to undertake a feasibility study. This will appraise the Town Planning situation and how accommodation would fit onto the site. It will also include the likely effect on the local streets with regard to car movement. It has been stressed that the school field cannot be built on and must remain a feature of the school.
Dinner money
As previously informed, from September school meals will cost £2.00 per day.
Please note:
Term ends on Wednesday 18th July – 2.20 pm for the nursery, 2.25 pm for reception and infants, 2.30 pm for juniors. There will be no junior homework club on this day.
